Somerset House Summer Festival – Blondie and Ellie Goulding

Somerset House has a range of events throughout the Summer of 2011 in July and August, this magnificent building dates back to the middle of the 18th century, the British government decided on building grand strutural projects to showcase the start of the Empire. This Summer at Somerset House the following events are taking place: Blondie July 13, Blondie was a massive group in the 1980’s and early 90′ s and many well known artists such as Madonna and Gwen Stefani were huge fans and were influenced by their sound. Debbie Harry the lead singer of blondie went solo afte the band split in the mid 90’s which still kept the focus on the group because Debbie was such an icon. Blondie actually reunited back in 1996 however is wasn’t until 1999 that they went back in the studio and began to produce an album, on the back of this they requests to play at Festivals and the band had reduced to a four piece as Valentine had left the group never to return. The four group members were Harry, Stein, Burke and Destri. Blondie now play around the world at festivals and music events, the group are more popular than ever and have a new fan following with their new music. Goulding has been incredibly in demand for the last 18 months travelling across the globe touring form the UK and Europe and over to the US where she has recieved critical acclaim after her realease of the album ‘Lights’ in 2010. Goulding was featured as number five artist on Rolling Stone Magazines hotlist in February 2011. In february 2011 she returned to the BRIT awards where she was nominated for the Best British Female Solo Artist and Best British Breakthrough act.Goulding performed at the 40th Glastonbury festival and even performed her music at the Royal Wedding for the marriage of William and Kate as the only liver perfomer singing her redition of Your Song for the couples first dance as well as her hits The Writer and Starry Eyed and several of William and Kate’s personal favourites.Prince Harry himself persoannly arranged the whole event, the Royal party enjoyed the music which gave Ellie further success throughout the world.
