On Thursday 21^st February 2013, American pop rock band, Train, will be performing at the O2 academy Leeds. They’ll be performing material from their most recent album, ‘California 37’, which reached the UK Top 10, as well as old favourites and classics. The band is a trio made up of Pat Monahan, Jimmy Stafford and Scott Underwood.

Train’s self titled debut album was released in 1998. It was self produced and largely a hit with rock stations; however it did bring the band some national recognition. Their second album, ‘Drops of Jupiter’ was more critically acclaimed. Just before the release of the album, Train released the title track, ‘Drops of Jupiter’ and it was a massive success. It spent 54 weeks in the American Hot 100 before being dropped to the recurrents chart. The song won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song as well as a Grammy Award for Best Arrangement and is still arguable Train’s most popular song to date. The album was also a massive success of the back of the title song and went multi-platinum. The third album, ‘My Private Nation’, was released in 2003, followed by, ‘For Me, It’s You’, in 2005. Train then took a 3 year hiatus to focus on their friends and family. During this time, Pat Monahan released a solo album but it didn’t fare very well commercially. They returned in 2009 with their fifth album, ‘Save Me, San Francisco’, from which the hit, ‘Hey Soul Sister’ was released. It became the second top 10 track of their career and was the most downloaded iTunes track in 2010. Their most recent album, ‘California 37’ also fared well commercially with the track, ‘Drive By’, reaching the top 10 in the charts.
