Celebrate Pancake Day in London
Pancake Day this year will fall on 21st February, normally the rule of thumb falls between the 2nd February and 9th March dependant on the date for Easter. Pancake day in London is traditionally celebrated with Pancake Races, here a just a few to get you in the spirit whilst you stay in London.
Shrove Tuesday as ‘Pancake Day’ is also known takes place on a different date every year in the United Kingdom. Pancakes are made up of sugar, fat, flour and eggs, these food elements were restricted during the ritual fasting associated with Lent.
Historically Shrove Tuesday dates back to the 12th Century, the tradition is said to have originated when a housewife from Olney was busy making pancakes that she forgot the time until she heard the Church Bells ringing for the Service. The housewife raced out of the house to church while still carrying her frying pan and pancake.
