The picturesque town of Ayr is located on the west coast of Ayrshire in Scotland, and is the administrative centre of the South Ayrshire Council area. As a popular seaside resort, tourism occupies a significant sect of the town’s economy. Ayr is one of the largest retail centres along the south of Scotland, and has hosted the annual Scottish Grand National horse-racing steeplechase since 1965. Five miles north of Ayr is Troon, a popular golf and seaside resort.
