Horror as a rule is a much maligned and underappreciated genre – when they are handing out the big awards and the cultural kudos, horror seems to be the weirdo in the corner that no-one pays much attention to whilst the latest piece of “serious” drama garners all the acclaim. All the same, it is great to see the return of the annual Dead by Dawn horror festival to Edinburgh this year after it took a break in 2010. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is just a festival for gorehounds – there will be psychological horror, and all kinds of downright weird shorts.
