John Bishop is quite a late developer in the world of comedy. He played at a level just below League Football turning out for Southport, Hyde United and Winsford United averaging close to 1 goal in 5 games from midfield. He won the Liverpool Senior Cup during his playing days at Southport beating Liverpool at Goodison Park. He is also an avid Liverpool FC fan and played a big part of the deposition of Hicks & Gillet the previous owners of the Anfield outfit. Bishop also turned out as a substitute for the Liverpool Legends in the Hillsborough Memorial Game at Anfield on 14th May 2007.
