National Football Museum to relocate to Manchester

Serviced City Pads understands that the National Football Museum which is currently housed at Preston North End’s famous Deepdale ground, will relocate to the Urbis Exhibition building in Manchester city centre, sometime during 2010.
The museum which attracts 100,000 visitors to Preston each year is home to a massive collection of football memorabilia – including shirts, programmes, trophies and medals from some of the most important football matches ever to be played.
We understand that Manchester City council is at an advanced stage of discussion to bring the Mueum to Manchester.
Chris Rose, Director at Serviced City Pads said, “Whilst this will prove to be a blow to the people and economy of Preston, moving the National football museum to Manchester seems to be an obvious thing to do. Manchester attracts many more visitors than Preston which will mean that many more tourists will get to see the football exhibitions. Urbis is a fantastic new building in the heart of Manchester city centre making it easy for visitors staying in Manchester to find, and will prove to be a great home for the museum. Visitor numbers will increase massively on this move to Manchester. Of course, Manchester has a proud footballing heritage – as does Preston – and the city feels like the rightful place for the Museum to move to. For the many people who book apartments in Manchester with Serviced City Pads, this is yet another “Must do” on their list during their Manchester visit. It will obviously appeal to people who are visiting Manchester to watch a football match at Either Manchester United or City, but the museum will also appeal on a deeper cultural and historical level.”
