Lord of the Dance and its creator, producer and director, Michael Flatley, have become household names since their first production in Dublin in 1996. Within months of its opening, Lord of the Dance was hailed as the highest grossing international tour of the year. It set new records for live performances all over the world. Michael Flatley first shot to fame in Riverdance, which was first performed in the interval of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. He dreamed of bringing an Irish dance show to huge arenas all across the world and this is exactly what he did with Lord of the Dance. The mesmerizingly fast dancing portrays the story of the ‘Lord of the Dance’ in his fight against the evil dark master ‘Don Dorch’ from taking over Planet Ireland. The plot is based on ancient Irish folklore and Biblical references. It became the most critically acclaimed show in the history of musical theatre which has been seen by over 60 million people in over 60 different countries around the world. It has been performed at Disney World, the Oscars and at the 300th anniversary celebration of St Petersburg, where it entertained heads of state such as then-president, George Bush and President Putin.
