Ask someone to name the first musical that pops into their head and one of the most common answers will be Grease. This legendary musical has been running in theatres all over the world since 1971. It was originally performed in Chicago in a lowly tram shed but has gone on since to become a Broadway and West End hit and an enormously successful film starring Hollywood giants John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Now, Grease is on its way to Birmingham! Serviced apartments are still available in Birmingham for the four week period in December that Grease is taking over The Alexandra Theatre, so why not take advantage and book one! Serviced apartments are an increasingly fashionable and popular choice for visitors to cities, offering more space, more freedom and more amenities for your money. December’s production of Grease sees the winner of ITV’s Grease is the Word, Danny Bayne, return to his role as Danny Zuko and Carina Gillespe playing the role of Sandy.  The production tells the story of a holiday romance between Australian good girl, Sandy and American bad boy Danny. The teenagers fall in love and are devastated to be separated at the end of the summer. But when Sandy’s parents decide to stay in America and the lovers attend the same school, Sandy makes an unpleasant discovery that the Danny she met on the beach is very different to the Danny she meets at school. The show follows the teenagers and their friends as they explore adolescence, love, gangs and friendship. This production of Grease promises to get you singing and dancing along in your seats with all the favourite classics from the show, which have also seen phenomenal success away from the stage. After the release of the 1978 film, ‘You’re The One That I Want’ stayed at number 1 in the UK charts for nine weeks straight, this was then followed by a seven week spell for ‘Summer Nights’.

In 2003, Grease was voted ‘The No.1 Greatest Musical of all time’ by Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Musicals. If you want to relive the magic of Grease then get yourself down to Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre as the show runs between 6th-31st December 2011.
