The first group to ever win The X Factor, Little Mix, will be performing at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Tuesday 29th January 2013. This is the group’s first ever solo tour, having already toured as part of The X Factor live tour earlier this year. Made up of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, the girls originally auditioned for the show as solo singers. All four failed to make it past the bootcamp stage of the show but were given lifelines and put into two separate girl groups for another shot. Perrie and Jesy were placed in girl group, ‘Faux Pas’ and Leigh-Anne and Jade were placed into ‘Orion’. Again, both groups failed to make it through to the next stage of the competition but a later decision saw the four being called back to audition at the judges houses, minus the other members of their groups, to compete as a four piece girl band known as ‘Rhythmix’. This time, the girls were successful and N-Dubz band member and judge, Tulisa Contostavlos, chose them to appear in the live shows. The name ‘Rhythmix’, however, was short lived as a Brighton-based charity, ‘Rhythmix’ complained after X Factor tried to trademark the name. The girls changed their name to ‘Little Mix’ after show 4 of the live shows. Little Mix performed well week after week with Tulisa fighting their corner, despite girl bands having a reputation of being unpopular with X Factor viewers. They won the show with Scouser, Marcus Collins coming in second and released their debut single ‘Cannonball’ shortly afterwards in December 2011. They hit the number one spot and got Christmas number 1 on the Irish Charts. The new single, ‘Wings’, from their debut album, ‘DNA’, was also a hit and reached number 1 in the UK.
