There will doubtless be some people visiting Manchester in June 2012 as that month sees the return of pop-punk power trio Blink 182 to the MEN Arena for the first time since 2004. The band was one of the biggest pop acts in after the release of the smash-hit album “Enema of the State” in 1999. The album spawned many hit singles such as “What’s My Age Again?”, “All the Small Things” and “Adam’s Song”. The follow up album, 2001’s “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket”, continued the band’s rise with “First Date”, “Rock Show” and “Stay Together for the Kids”. The success continued with the self-titled album (hit songs included “Always” and “Down”) which saw the band take a different approach to their sound. However, though Blink 182 were by this time was regularly selling out stadiums across the world and shifting truckloads of albums, things were not all well within the band. The band went on “indefinite hiatus” in 2005, but in reality it seemed like it was all over. Guitarist Tom DeLonge quit the band, and everyone moved on to other projects. Bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker formed the new punk-pop outfit +44, and Tom DeLonge formed the band “Angels and Airwaves”. It wasn’t until 2008, after Barker had been injured in a plane crash that the former bandmates began to reconnect with each other. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, the trio appeared together and announced the band’s reformation. A reunion tour followed that year that saw the band rapturously received by their fans, and they began work on a new album. This album, “Neighbourhoods” will be released this September and followed by a European tour. Blink 182 will be coming to Manchester’s MEN Arena on 15th June 2012 to play their new songs and all their classic hits. For every Blink fan it should be worth the wait. The band is known for their high energy performances and their hilarious stage banter, and the Manchester show should be a night to remember.
