Tracey Emin at the Hayward Gallery – Serviced City Pads
The world famous and enfant terrible of the Art World Tracey Emin will be showing her work at the Hayward Gallery on the Southbank Centre form May 18 through to the 29th August 2011. Tracey Emin was born in Croydon in June 1963 and her first work ‘Everyone I Have Ever Slept With 1963 – 1995’ caused a sensation when shown at the world famous gallery of Charles Saartchi’s held at the Royal Academy in London. Tracey has been identified for many years prior to one of a talented group of artist’s known as the Young British Artists along with Damian Hurst, Tracey has had interesting moments when she appeared on a Channel 4 TV discussion rather worst for where, however this added to her fame and allure. One of her most famous works is ‘My Bed’ which caused a storm in the press due to the sheets in the bed being stained yellow, and the surrounding floor ad itmes from her room such as condoms, empty cigarette packets, a pair of knickers with menstrual stains and other detritus including a pair of slippers. The bed was presented as it had been when she had stayed in it for several days feeling suicidal because of relationship difficulties. One lady came to the exhibition with cleaning materials and had to be stopped from tiydying it up. Emin has also done work on Princess Diana, inspired by the private life of the Princess drawing were produced highlighting her battle with bulimia eating discorder works such as ‘They Want you to be destroyed’ this after the press had hounded Diana throughout her life. Emin also produced drawings highlighting the Princess’s work in the minefields of Angola showing Diana wlaking though th minefields in protective clothing.
