On a Saturday afternoon in London, there are few places I could recommend more than Portobello Market in Notting Hill. Portobello Market is one of the most famous street markets in the world making it a very popular attraction for both tourists and locals alike. Located in Notting Hill, West London, the market runs the entire length of Portobello Road which is around two miles long. It is held every Saturday and does get very crowded as the day goes on so it’s best to get there early to avoid the worst of the crowds and snap up the best bargains.

One of the things that Portobello market is most famous for is its antiques although you can also find stalls selling clothes, jewellery, food etc. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends or family and you can be as leisurely as you like. The road itself is very picturesque and the scenery changes as you walk down the road. It starts off with beautiful, brightly coloured houses (including one that was once inhabited by the writer, George Orwell). Further down the road you can find independent shops and boutiques, delicious bakeries and trendy cafes. As you stroll along even further, there are pubs, coffee shops and some high street stores including Cath Kidston and Accessorize.  You could spend hours wandering down this road. Make sure to pay a visit to The Hummingbird bakery which sells the most delicious cakes and desserts.
