What’s on in Liverpool during March?

MUSIC As Liverpool welcomes Spring there’s gigs to suit everyone this March. On Friday 6th and Saturday 7th March The Courteeners play an exclusive two night stand at O2 Academy Liverpool before they leave for the States to support Morrissey. The band is currently working on new songs for their second album, due later in 2009. later in the month The Enemy who have been busy recording the follow up to their all-conquering debut album and are on their biggest tour to date to celebrate its release. See them at the O2 academy on March 25th. This months much awaited Gig of the Month is Starsailor on Monday March 30th Starsailor are a misconstrued British success story, and one that most people have only scratched the surface of. Since their arrival in 2001, Starsailor have impressed with albums that show both depth and progression. With their fourth release, ‘All The Plans’, they sound like a band finally coming of age.

SPORT  Merseyside’s football calendar this month sees The Blues face Middlesbrough in the quarter finals of the FA cup on march 8th and then Stoke at home in the Barclays premier league on March 14th. Over at Anfield, Sunderland are the premier league visitors on March 3rd followed by Aston Villa on the 22nd. Real Madrid continues the battle to win the champions League on the 10th march. THEATRE As usual for Liverpool’s Empire Theatre, march is packed with dance and drama for all ages. On the 4th-7th, featuring World, European and National Championship skaters, Cinderella On Ice takes the stage. Performing intricate and thrilling moves, it is set to a magical score that’s been especially composed for this production. Next up from the 9th to 14th, is the amazing Thriller Live, a spectacular concert specially created to celebrate the incredible career of the World’s Greatest Entertainer – Michael Jackson. This fantastic concert features a West End cast of performers including singers, live band, choir and as you’d expect, fantastic dancers paying tribute to the true King of Pop and bringing the magic of Michael and the Jackson Five to life. For something completely different, The Vagina Monologues returns to Liverpool for 1 week only with a fantastic cast – Jennifer Ellison, Sue Jenkins and Cathy Tyson! Based on author Eve Ensler’s ‘Vagina Interviews’ conducted with women from all around the world, this hilariously witty and moving collection of tales gives voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, brave and thoroughly human stories.
